My personal favourite is The Great Escape But then it would be 'A Bridge to far' and 'Bridge over the River Kwai'

"Why the hell is there not one british solider in the whole film It makes those who dont know much about war belive that D-Day was a strictly american campiagn."
It had nothing to do with being strictly an "American Campaign." The premise of the story goes back to the Fatal Tragedy of the five Sullivan brothers, who if you don't know, all served on the same battleship and it was sunk and they all perished. Thus, their mother received 5 telegrams in the mail on one day signifying the death of her boys. That sucks. The purpose was to show that because of the Sullivan brothers tragedy that the American government was not willing to allow another family lose all their sons in the course of the war. So that meant sending out 8 soldiers to find this one Pvt. J Ryan. It was a remarkable story and to also add to your "American Campaign" remark, the story began on OMAHA Beach, which if you could quite remember was an American landing zone. With the amount of detail that was put into that film, I almost wish it was about D-day alone with the other 4 beaches of Utah, Gold, Sword, and Juno included.
But as far as other films go, Memphis Belle is really good. It tells of the 25th and Final Mission of the 10 man crew of the famous B-17 bomber as they take their last mission over Bremen.
A joke of a movie is most definitely BIG RED ONE, as in the Kasserine Pass scene, the german tanks are actually repro shermans painted in german colors - oh I laughed so hard at that. Enemy at the Gates WAS a great film for the first ten-fifteen minutes of the film itself. After that it gets a bit too hairy. Best part about that film is the depiction in which Propaganda was used to feverishly to fuel the war efforts on both sides.
Band of Brothers is a fantastic movie series and clearly does justice for the 101st Airborne. The book was even more fantastic.
I love stories of those little well known regiments that are made into movies that show just how important they were in decisive battles. For instance, the group of soldiers who volunteered to go and save the 513 American and British POW's from the Japanese after the Bataan Death March. OOOOOH That gets my blood boiling thinking of it... Great book out there for anyone interested - its called Ghost Soldiers - its about the the Death March and the successive resuce of the POWs. Another flick I enjoyed, but was totally a cheeseball film was Force 10 From Navarone. It was a cheesy late 70's or early 80's flick with Harrison Ford and Robert Shaw.
Well, I think that's enough to read for now! In the words of General MacArthur - "I shall return!"

Any one seen 'When Trumpet's Fade' about the battle for the Hurtgen Forrest. 'Stalingrad' by the Das Boot Producers. The brilliant 'Cross of Iron'. "Their's is the Glory" made in 1945 about the battle for Arnhem and staring the actual soldiers who were in the battle. Two films I love but have been unable to get a copy are 'They Were not Divided' about a Yank who joins a Brit Tank Regiment and 'Sea of Sand' about a raid carried out by LRDG/SAS in the desert. Would recommend all of the above as good viewing even if some people are not over keen on B&W
