Stalag Luft III - The Great Escape - can be played on a variety of table top sizes. Choose the size that best suits you and the space you have available. Whichever size of table you choose I suggest you design your table so that it can be broken down into managable pieces. My board breaks down so that no section is larger than 3'x3' - this is a convenient size to handle alone and fits into my car. 4'x4' sections really require 2 people to handle them - so consider this when designing your board layout. The full size table is 8 feet in length by 4 feet wide - which is a convenient size in the UK as sheets of 1 inch thick MDF come in this size from B&Q and you simply get it cut up by the fella at the saw desk so it fits in your car. The 8'x4' table is layed out like this: If this is too large for the space you have available, you can opt for the 6 hut version. The table top is reduced by 3', making it 5'x4' like so: You can reduce the table still further by removing the side road - reducing the width to 3' making the table 5'x3' thus: In theory you could even go down to a 3'x3' table by removing the Vorlarger altogether and just having the 6 huts on a flat 3'x3' board. You could knock that together in double quick time - and I think the game would still be playable if pieces in the Vorlager were placed to one side - but personally I wouldn't go that far - if you're going to do that then you might as well just play the board game version of the game. I don't see the images ... it would be great to see the layout ... I did some calculations last night and ended up with the same dimensions at 8 feet x 4 feet. Can you post the 8'x4' layout?
